Eat Better to Feel Better this Holiday Season

Cakes, cookies, pumpkin lattes and apple pie. The four KEY food groups of the holiday season and the perfect recipe for inflammation, fatigue and maybe even trying out a new hole in your belt. We’ve all been there. Stuff your face and then waddle over to the couch only to fall asleep in a carbohydrate induced coma. I speak from experience. UGH.

Thankfully, you don’t have to give up everything that you crave to feel better this holiday season. In fact, a few smart choices can help you to have a healthier and happier holiday.

First, Drink water. Staying well hydrated is crucial to eating less junk. After all, there is only so much room in your stomach. Right? So, drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning and again during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, water helps to reduce inflammation and curb your appetite. At the end of the day, you are probably going to eat the cake . . . but better one piece than two.

Second, You gotta sleep. You need 6-8 hours per night of uninterrupted sleep in order to recharge your batteries and recover from your days activities. The extra busyness of the holidays does not reduce your need for sleep. If anything, it increases it. One more thing, turn the ringer off on your phone and put it in the kitchen or living room or someplace other than where YOU are sleeping.

Third, Visit your Chiropractor. Research continues to show that chiropractic adjustments can reduce the stress on both your body and your mind by releasing the stored-up stress and tension in your muscles.

Fourth, Share this information with your friends and family. I believe that if you possess information that could improve the quality of another person’s life, then you have a moral obligation to share that information with them. Especially if you genuinely care about that person.
