The Mysterious Tale Of Maddie's 106 Degree Fever

April 22, 2020

Can I tell you a story about myself?

It might explain a few things.

I spent the first 10 or 11 years of my professional career as a sports chiropractor in a suburb of Dallas, TX. I worked mostly on back and neck pain, Achilles tendon injuries, knee and hip injuries.

Something that is called musculoskeletal injuries in the healthcare world.  I was good at it and I had built a reputation but I was pretty much limited to fixing hips and back and knees.

Due to the turmoil in my life and a word from God, I moved to Branson in 2015. I was trying to build a practice from scratch, and I was pretty much doing what I did in Dallas.  Treating people with musculoskeletal pain. Just trying to get busy.

In the process of trying to rebuild my practice, my wife had reached out to some chiropractors on Facebook to get some help and the people that responded back to me started to tell me these stories of these remarkable changes that they were seeing in people’s health by doing chiropractic on them. People waking up from a coma. Getting off blood pressure medication.

Things that just did not jive with my understanding of what chiropractic was all about. Quite frankly, It seemed unbelievable to me.

I was torn inside.  I really wanted to experience these seeming miracles of healing in my practice with my patients but I just didn’t really believe that it was possible.  I didn’t really understand chiropractic at all.

Which is funny because I was very good at what I did.

In July of 2016 my family went to Hilton Head for our summer vacation.  Travel was really rough getting there.  In fact, we did not reach the house until 5:30 in the morning.  We spent over 3 hours stuck in the Atlanta airport.  My daughter Maddie was not even 2 years old at the time.

Any way.  We wake up the next day and the kids start playing but by lunch Maddie came in to tell me that she didn’t feel well.  I said okay honey why don’t you go lay down and take a nap.  The rest of the day she sleeps. Misses dinner. Doesn’t wake up at all.
So my wife and I go to bed.

Jeni wakes me up at 2 in the morning and says that Maddie has a fever of 106 and that she is having what appear to be seizures. I was freaked out. I have never been so terrified in my entire life.

So, Jeni gets on the phone looking for a hospital or something that we can take her to.  There was nothing open.

While Jeni is looking for a hospital or something, I am holding Maddie and she suddenly has another seizure.

To this day I do not know why I did what I did next, but I checked her neck for something that chiropractors call a subluxation. A subluxation is like a kink in a chain.

Sure enough I found it.  I adjusted it.

Nothing happened.

I picked Maddie up and sat in a chair with her while Jeni continued to try to figure out what to do.

Good Lord she was so hot. It was like holding a radiator to my chest.

And then something strange started to happen.  I could feel her start to cool off.
I checked her temperature.  103.  Continued to hold her.  She continued to cool off.

Temp 101.

She started to move around in my arms.  Checked her temp again.  99.

About 10 minutes after I adjusted her, she sat up in my lap, looked me square in the eye, smiled, stretched her arm up over head and said, “I LOVE EVERYONE.”

She spent the rest of the vacation playing with her brother and cousins like any normal 2 year-old.

That was the first “miracle” that I ever witnessed.  It took me 11 years in practice to see it.

I have since witnessed many.

Here are three things that I can tell you about chiropractic since that night:

1.    An expertly delivered chiropractic adjustment is still a phenomenal intervention for a person experiencing pain in their muscles and joints.  Back. Neck. Hips. Feet. Shoulders. Elbows. Etc.

2.    When there is a subluxation or a kink in the spine, that kink can cause a whole host of health problems. 106 degree fevers.  High blood pressure. Gastrointestinal problems like heart burn and IBS. Problems with fertility.  Bed wetting. Problems with focus and mood. Etc.

3.    If a subluxation (kink in the spine) is causing ANY health problem, then an expertly delivered chiropractic adjustment is the ONLY solution to that health problem.  Any other treatment is simply covering up the problem.

4.    Chiropractic is NOT a treatment for anything in particular . . . except the subluxation . . . the kink in the spine and the only way to know if you have a subluxation is to visit a chiropractor who understands the power of what he/she does (I did NOT for 11 years of practice).

Maddie is 6 years old now. We had a push up contest last weekend.

Sadly . . . She beat me.

Love ya,

Dr. Tim
